Selena

Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres" 16, 1971 - March 31 1995), also known as Selena, is a famous American Tejano performer. Called"the "Queen of Tejano music" her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most well-known Mexican-American entertainers in the late 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her third on their list of "Greatest Latino Artists" according to Latin albums and Latin charts of music. Her style of dress earned her the title "Tejano Madonna". She is also among the most influential Latin musicians of all time , and is widely credited with propelling the Tejano genre into the mainstream market. The youngest of the Quintanilla family, she made her debut in the music industry as one of the members of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla Quintanilla. In the 1980s, she frequently criticised for her singing Tejano music that was a predominantly male-dominated genre. The singer was also denied the opportunity to perform in Texas venues. But her popularity increased as she was awarded the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, which she won nine consecutive times. In 1989, she signed with EMI Latin and released her debut album titled Entre a Mi Mundo (1992). Her brother was her primary music producer and writer. Entre a Mi Mundo was a top-ranked album on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums charts for eight consecutive months. Critics called it"the "breakthrough recording" of her career due to its commercial record-breaking success. One of its songs, "Como la Flor" became one of her most popular tracks. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido became one the most sought-after Latin albums in America in 1994. The album was widely acclaimed for being the first Tejano music album to be commercially viable, and it quickly became one of the most loved Latin subgenres of Latin music at the time.
