April Ross

April Ross, a beach volleyball player from the United States is part of a select group of women who have won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman has become a brand new Olympian and is set to join her at Tokyo. In addition, Ross is aiming to capture her very first Olympic gold. In fact, at 39, this could be her last opportunity to do so. However, she's convinced that top prizes can be achieved. Ross was mentioned in NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your top, even if you play well we will get the gold. Also, I'll take the opportunity to try my luck. Ross was born in Costa Mesa, California in the year 1982. Her parents and her sister resided in the area. Ross's athletic endeavors began at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of activities. In her time as a college athlete, she also played indoor track and volleyball. When she played in the final sport, she clearly stood out. In her time at the high school level in her university biography she played as a middle-blocker, outside-hitter and setter. She was named the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 for her achievements. Also, in 2000 she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross has been playing with Klineman since 2017, but Ross's beach game was well-established long before this. In actual Ross has been a winner of several major tournaments in her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until the year 2013. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be an impressive force on the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title together. They took home a Silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold beating them to it. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she announced her retirement. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics 2016. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC in her college years before becoming a professional. Ross's playing time with the Trojans was impressive. In her first year at the school, 2000 was when she won the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of Year awards and be an All-American. The Trojans were also able to reach the Final Four with her help. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore year and yet she went on to repeat in the ranks of an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans up to the summit and clinched consecutive national championships. The achievements of each individual have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the top levels of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was still an USC sophomore. She had breast cancer. Ross holds her mother close to her heart. Margie is an inspiration both on and off at the beach.
